The Snow Queen

“Even stronger the second time around,” (Chicago Sun-Times), The Snow Queen is gathering momentum for her third year as Chicago’s #1 alternative to traditional holiday family fare. Warm storytelling, amazing puppetry and Michael Smith’s magical score combine for a wild ride into Hans Christian Andersen’s beloved winter tale. Returning are Tony-winning director Frank Galati, master puppeteer Blair Thomas & Co., choreographer Jim Corti, as well as veteran cast and band members. A delight for kids eight and up, Smith’s wickedly funny lyrics and sophisticated songs of the heart equally engage adults of all ages. “The nicest present we’ve gotten for the holidays.” (Time Out Chicago)

Family Saturday

Victory Gardens is the only Chicago theater that makes it easy for parents to experience award-winning live theater, without the hassle of finding a sitter. At Victory Gardens’ Family Saturday performances, you watch the show, while we watch your kids! VGT education professionals will keep children 4 and up entertained with theater games, crafts and storytelling in our Prince Charitable Trusts Rehearsal Room, while you’re downstairs enjoying a new play in our beautiful Biograph Theater mainstage. In addition to instilling a love for theater, kids’ activities are tailored to each play's themes - guaranteeing a lively post-show conversation on the drive home. Parents are encouraged to check in during intermission, and join their kids for free gourmet cupcakes, courtesy of Swirlz Cupcakes.

“We were amazed at the amount of planning that went into the childcare.  For each play there were activities for the kids that drew from the central theme of the show we were seeing downstairs.  Our kids had a great time, while my husband and I were able to enjoy a "grown-up" time in the city.  Being able to attend a play without the hassle of finding a sitter and then worrying that they might cancel was tremendous. Of course, not feeling rushed during the travel time to and from the theater was an added bonus.”

- Dina Berne, mother of Sophie (10) and Miriam (8) Family Saturday subscribers, 2007-2008

Call the box office - 773.871.3000 - about our introductory five-play Family Saturday subscription offer - only $155 per parent! That's five "date nights" for just over $300...such a deal!
