Sound Off! Your Words/Your Voice: The Gifted Playwrights Series

The Arts Education Department at Victory Gardens Theater is pleased to announce the return of our summer youth playwriting workshop, Sound Off: Your Words/ Your Voice, another amazing opportunity for students to learn and grow through the creative arts. Sound Off is our free intensive playwriting program in which high school students work closely with one of our ensemble playwrights, currently the award winning Douglas Post. This is a chance for young people to experience first hand all the steps in the process of writing a play. We are seeking the best and brightest candidates who have an interest in theater, creative writing, and self expression. Student nominees should be highly motivated, self disciplined, and committed to the creative process. You may nominate as many students as you like, but be aware that space in the program is limited, and demand for the program is quite high.

The goals we have set for Sound Off include:

* Mentoring students in the craft of writing a play.

* Nurturing and developing the individual voice of the student.

* Generating interest in playwriting and the theater arts as a career option.

* Having students write their own short play, which will be performed Readers Theater style by professional actors on the Victory Gardens Theater main stage.

The Sound Off program will take place at the theater twice a week over a six week period in the summer. Students will be provided transportation allowances and snacks. And of course, this program comes with no charges to the students or the schools. The nomination process has already begun and will continue throughout the year. If you have any students, past or present that fit the criteria, please submit your nominations as soon as possible. Interviews with candidates will be ongoing. Final selections will be made in the spring.
